Privacy
In short
Duskwild does not collect, sell or share your personal data. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking in this version. Your game is saved on your own device.
Who we are
Duskwild is made by Cynical Studio, Sweden. Contact: cynical@cynicalstudio.com.
What stays on your device
- Your save: progress, settings and looks. In the app it is kept in the app's own storage, with a copy in the app's preferences so it survives the system clearing web data. In a browser it is kept in that browser's local storage. A few spare copies (backup slots) are kept so a damaged save can be restored.
- A device identifier: in the app, the identifier your phone's system gives each app (Android ID or Apple's identifier for vendor); in a browser, a random number the game makes. It is used on the device only, to tell your saves apart. It is never sent anywhere.
None of this leaves your device through the game. Reset progress in Settings starts a new game; uninstalling the app (or clearing the site's data in your browser) deletes everything.
Device backups
On Android, the system's own backup (to your Google account, or when you move to a new phone) may include the save copy, so you keep your progress after a reinstall. On iPhone and iPad, iCloud or computer backups may include it. These backups are run by Google or Apple under your account, not by us, and you can turn them off in your device settings.
Network
The game plays fully offline. It makes no network requests of its own: all art, music and fonts are inside the game.
If you play in a web browser, the game files are served by our web host, Cloudflare, which, like any web server, briefly processes your IP address and browser details to deliver the files and protect against abuse. We do not use those logs to identify you.
Children
The game collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Purchases
Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play; we never see your payment details. To check that a purchase is real and to deliver and restore it, the app uses RevenueCat as our processor. RevenueCat receives a random app user id it creates (not your name or email), your purchases of this game from the store (product, date, transaction id, price, currency and store country) and basic app and device details (app version, system version). It is used only to deliver purchases, not for advertising. [link to RevenueCat privacy policy]
Your device also keeps a short list of the purchases already delivered, outside your game save, so a purchase is never delivered twice and starting over does not repeat it. Restore purchases (Settings) brings back the Starter and Supporter looks; the Starlight in them is given once. Until cloud save is available, Starlight stays on the device it was bought on.
Ads
Ads are optional: you only see one when you choose to watch it for a reward. Ads are provided by Google AdMob and are non-personalised. Google may process your device's advertising identifier, IP address (approximate location) and ad interactions to show the ad, measure it and prevent fraud. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland we ask for your consent first; you can change it any time under Settings, Ad choices.
Before the first ad the game asks for your year of birth. The year is not stored: only an age band (under 13, 13 to 16, older) is kept, on your device and outside your game save, so starting over does not ask again. If you are under 13, the ad code is never started. From 13 to 16, Google is told the user is under the age of consent where that applies. Ads are limited to 5 a day, are rated for general audiences, and the game never asks to track you (no advertising tracking prompt on iPhone and iPad).
Google's ad code runs inside the app and talks to Google directly; the game itself sends nothing to Google. [link to Google's "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services"]
Crash reports and game statistics
To fix crashes and see where players get stuck, the game sends [vendor] anonymous reports: crashes, session starts, the stage reached and rebirths, with your device model and system version. They are not linked to you and are kept for [period]. You can turn them off in Settings.
Cloud save
If you turn on cloud save, your save is stored in your own Google Play Games or iCloud account, handled by Google or Apple.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. Questions or requests: cynical@cynicalstudio.com. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK you may also contact your data protection authority.
Changes
If the game starts using any of the services above, this page will say so before that version is released.
